Now if you haven't checked out Tiger King on Netflix yet, go do it, because my goodness what a train wreck of fun. Don't worry for this challenge you don''t have to run a zoo dedicated to Tigers, or deal with your two husbands, or have someone trying to shut you down. You will be the one trying to do the shutting down, and you definitely be tying to tame some Tigers.
Objective: The objective of this challenge is to choose a pitcher, to face the 2019 Detroit Tigers lineup and to give up the least amount of hits and walks as possible. The winner of the challenge will be determined by the lowest total of hits and walks combined, and the tie breaker will be runs allowed. You must pitch a complete game with your pitcher.
Rules: Your Catcher is a +6, Infield defense is a +7 and your outfield is a +4, and when they have runners on base, A & B runners will try to score from second on all singles. Speed A runners will try to steal second if on first and second is open every time.
When selecting your pitcher I do have a few rules for you, to keep in line with the theme Tiger King.
1. The pitcher you select card can't be for the Tigers.
2. The pitcher you select must have a mullet or a mustache in his photo on the card you are using. (Not a beard, or goatee, a mustache or some extreme exotic facial hair that Joe would be proud of.)
3. I know every ones first thought is Randy Johnson and that makes perfect sense, he kind of looks like Joe Exotic, but if you really want to challenge yourself, don't pick the big unit, your'e still allowed to, just an additional challenge.
4. Have fun and play fair for everyone.
5. Bonus for pitchers Tier 3 and above, Subtract their Tier from their total of walks/Hits, for your total score. Example, Tier 5 Pitcher gives up a total of 14 walks and hits, it gives him a total of 9 for the challenge(14-5)
Tigers Lineup: Here is the lineup that you will be facing
Scary lineup I know, everyone is shaking in their boots just thinking about how they hell are they going to defeat this team.
My Play Through: So I chose Mike Fiers, our hero whistle blower, who is totally not the right guy to choose for this kind of challenge, but how can you not, look at that cinnabon facial hair, it may be close to a beard but I don't count it, and it screams Joe Exotic to me.
Literally first pitch I roll a 1, and Goodrum has his deadly chart, dice bounces around and it a 2, Fiers lets a sigh of relief out and continues the inning. The first time Fiers ran into trouble was the 4th innings when 4 straight rolls were walks of hits on his chart,back to back walks, followed by a single and finally a single by Christin Stewart to drive in Miguel Cabrera for the first run, and also bringing the walk hit total up to 5. In the 8th inning Mike Fiers is a 2 Control, and gives up his first chart since the first batter of the game, which is pretty impressive, and Christin Stewart hits a double. He finishes the 8th inning at 9 hits, 3 walks and 1 run, with a hit/walk total of 12 as we go to the 9th inning with Mike at a 1 Control, time to get real exotic here, with Carole Baskin heckling Mike Fiers from the crowd Fiers allows a hit to the first batter. Next is Niko Goodrum who grounds into a double play, but Goodrum legs out the double play to stay alive at first, (that is not a hit or walk though). Goodrum (20 speed) attempts a steal and the catcher +6 rolls a 17!!!!! take that Tigers. Last up is Jacoby Jones who pops out to end the game and Mike Fiers goes the distance holding the Tigers to just 1 run, getting high fives from his teammates and adoration from the crowd as " Here Kitty Kitty" blares through the stadium speakers.
All in all this was better than I expected from a 5 Ctl on at 15 chart that only has 5IP on his card. 1 run from a bad inning of 4 straight hits off his chart. He only allowed 2 charts the entire game, that is a victory right there. Pitchers that are better than him should have a pretty easy time with the Tigers. Fiers did great with no banging on trashcans from the dugout.
