In this challenge, you get to take control of the Oakland A’s. Everyone knows Billy Beane as the moneyball man, and this is the chance to rewrite history and win the championship that has alluded the franchise for years. This challenge will consist of four parts, each one relying on the decisions and outcomes of the previous. The challenges are:
1 – Trade Deadline
2 – ALDS
3 – ALCS
4 – World Series
Congratulations on winning the AL West in a tiebreaker (technically ½ a game but you won the head to head so no need to make the game up). Lucky for you (or not so lucky), in come the New York Yankees. This is a star filled team with a decent pitching staff but definitely ready to be exploited.
In this challenge, you have the option to either:
-Play the series out managing both teams
-Play the series out batting for the A’s and pitching for the Yankees
-if you choose to only hit, the Yankees’ run support will be (based on their season averages and splits):
-Game 1 – 5 runs
-Game 2 – 5 runs
-Game 3 – 6 runs
-Game 4 – 5 runs
-Game 5 – 6 runs
The Yankees’ lineup is as follows (they only threw a three-man starting rotation):
-SP1 – Roger Clemens 00
-SP2 – Andy Pettitte 00
-SP3 – Orlando Hernandez 00
-RP – Mariano Rivera – the new Rivera card shown above
-RP – Mike Stanton 00
-RP – Jason Grimsley 00 PR
-RP – Ramiro Mendoza 00 (I know he didn’t pitch in the playoffs but he’s a fun card to use)
-RP – Jeff Nelson 01
-RP – David Cone 00 (was on the post-season roster but used as a long reliever)
The Yankees’ batting order is as follows:
SS – Derek Jeter 00
C – Jorge Posada 01
LF – David Justice 01
CF – Bernie Williams 01
1B – Tino Martinez 00
RF – Paul O’Neill 00
DH – Chuck Knoblauch 00
2B – Luis Sojo 01 PR
3B – Scott Brosius 00
Their fielding score is: IF +11, OF +3, C +6
Here are the rules for this challenge:
-Manage the opposing team the same way you would manage your own team
-House rules for games
-The A’s will host games 1, 2, and 5
-The Yankees will host games 3 and 4
-Rivera is capable of pitching in every game without a penalty for tiring, even if he throws more than one inning (that’s what happens when you’re the GOAT closer and that's coming from a Red Sox fan)
-If you decide to only bat, make sure to complete the entire game (run support matters later in this challenge series)
At the end of this challenge, you must:
-Post the result from every game in the series
-How many attempts it took you to advance
-ALDS MVP
Ooooo I'm definitely playing these games -- after all, I went ALL IN on my starting staff, no way I'm giving up 5-6 runs a game ;)
ReplyDelete**furiously knocks on wood to avoid the jinx**
I decided to play out the full series for the ALDS. Turns out it was a great call on my end, as it resulted in a sweep of the Yankees. Here are the game results:
ReplyDeleteGame 1 – 5-1 A’s – Clemens gave up two home runs in his 4 innings of work, allowing a 3-run shot to Klesko and another 2-run homer to Chavez
Game 2 – 9-1 A’s – Pettitte got rocked and lasted 3 innings, surrendering 8 runs
Game 3 – 6-5 A’s – this was a great game as Hudson gave up 5 runs in 5 innings while El Duque held the A’s to 2 runs over 6 innings – Mendoza came in for relief and allowed a 2-run shot to the second batter he faced so in came Rivera who pitched the 7th and 8th innings perfectly – with the top of the order due up, the Yankees went to the bullpen and then gave up 2 runs in the top of the 9th to allow the comeback to be completed
Series MVP – Chavez
On a side note, a big thank you to the commish for creating the amazing Rivera card.
I should be playing mine on Tuesday evening, glad to see a good first start for the A's!!
