2011 Set - Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

The Angels biggest strength is their rotation. They have two foils, but could have gotten three. Their bullpen is strong too, all ranging from 180-300 points. The lineup is much weaker, but with a few bright-ish spots. OG Showdown star Bobby Abreu is still a decent (and affordable) leadoff hitter here. Howie Kendrick brings great 2B defense and a powerful chart. Mark Trumbo brings the low OB pop. Overall not great, but reinforcements are coming…

The Rangers and Giants may have gained more overall with their Pennant Run additions in 2011, but the Angels have a September call-up who won ROTY the following season. In my opinion, no single player improves a team from base set to Pennant Run like rookie foil Mike Trout.

Lastly, the Angels’ two catchers are both among the worst in the set. Which one are you taking in a draft?

Foils: Dan Haren, Mike Trout (PR), Jared Weaver

And here’s that Pennant Run rookie foil Mike Trout, looking great in the throwback uniform:

  1. Great looking cards again, love seeing Torii Hunter putting out a draftable card!

What range of stats did you use for the Trout pennant run card? I didn’t think he was that good, that fast!

    1. Good question! This is what I wrote in my intro post about that:

"Some Pennant Run rookies are “September call-ups” who did not exceed their rookie limits until 2012. Due to small 2011 sample sizes, these cards are generated using 2011-2012 stats combined. (See Mike Trout, for example.)"

Don't look too closely, I may not have been consistent in applying this rule, lol.

    2. Trout was bad in 2011, but Rookie of the Year in 2012. This card is actually not as good as his 2012 RoY card.
