This might be the best squad in the 2011 set. They come in a close second in points to the Rangers overall, but have the top offense.
The lineup features several draftable cards, from the big names like Jacoby Ellsbury, David Ortiz, and Adrian Gonzalez, to value, above-average bats including Josh Reddick and The Greek God of Walks, Kevin Youkilis. (Yes, he has an alt-foil, but he isn’t the only Red Sox player with one…)
A personal favorite card is likely first-round-pick Dustin Pedroia: 9 OB, Speed A with pop, and +5 defense at 2B, all for 430 points.
Boston has some great pitching too, from ace Josh Beckett to long reliever Alfredo Aceves and plenty in between. Legendary knuckleballer Tim Wakefield (RIP) gets two cards. One is a 2011 starter card. The other is an In Memoriam foil featuring his 2002 “super season” as a reliever.
How did this team miss the Wild Card to the Rays? I’ve learned that that’s a whole dramatic story in itself…
Foils: Josh Beckett, Jacoby Ellsbury, Adrian Gonzalez, David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia, Tim Wakefield (IM)
Dang if this team got the kind of season from Crawford they envisioned while signing him, they would’ve waltzed to a title!! Still (imo) the best team on paper!
