2001 Challenge

Following the fun of the most recent challenge from Win Dance Repeat, it made a few of us think about how much we enjoyed the trading aspect, and then using your new built team to try to make a run with the A's in the playoffs. Peter and I went back and forth about it, before coming up with a fun challenge to test multiple GMs abilities in perfecting a roster. So with that in mind here is my 2001 challenge to those that are brave enough to sign up. Now most of the spots are filled, but there is still one team looking for a GM.

The plan for this challenge is to have set trade days that the 8 GM's will have to submit their trade proposals to the non contending teams to try to make that late season push for the playoffs. Each team can make four total trades, and once each roster is set and ready for battle, I will play out the playoffs to determine who is the 2001 set World Series Champion.

Teams Chosen So Far:
Yankees by Jorge (Rekt)
Red Sox by Win Dance Repeat
Mariners by Jesse ( Covington Crush)
Chicago White Sox by Jeffrey (URaLiebermaniac)
Braves by Will (Showdownfan/Tennesee Studs)
St. Louis Cardinals (His favorite team ever) by David Bush (Wisconsin Wolves)
Dodgers by Bradley (Socal Lemons)

Here are the rules of the challenge:

Teams available to be selected:

In the AL, all teams have their gm in place. While in the NL all three divisions have been chosen, so all they need now is a Wild Card team. As you can see much like Mark Mulder, each team has a trade piece that the Selling teams are interested in trading for, so their value is higher than their point total. I personally can't wait to see how each manager will try to improve their teams. Will you go the route of adding a pure high level superstar, or multiple adequate pieces to add depth to the team.

My hopes are to have the first day of trade submissions is August 1st. Teams rosters at this point is using the 2001 base set and pennant run set. If a player has a base and PR card, whatever team their PR card is on is the team that they are playing for.

When teams submit trades, you can submit multiple trades per deadline day. Ranking them in order of priority. Players can not be used in multiple trades submitted though. If multiple teams try to trade for the same player, the trade that is the most lucrative (points) for the selling team will be the trade that is chosen by the team. I will oversee all the trades and provide updates as trades happen.

Any other questions please post a comment or send me an email/message on the many platforms to reach me on. Also let me know if you want to be one of the two teams still needed to fill the challenge out.

  1. Hey love this site!
My brother and I are trying to make a set of custom cards for all of our friends (we all love playing tennis-ball baseball and have been debating our relative numerical merits). How did you get the 2000/01 card templates & would you be willing to share with us? I'm not very technologically gifted and admire the work you guys did on all of the custom sets.

Thank you for your work on this site either way!
