2002 World Series Champion Anaheim Angels

The 2002 Anaheim Angels won the first championship in the franchises history. They went 99-63 in the regular season and made the playoffs as the wild card team. Garret Anderson has a monster season winning a silver slugger and hit 56 doubles. While the pitching staff allowed the fewest runs in the league. They eliminated the Yankees in the Division Series before taking out he Twins in the ALCS. They met the San Francisco Giants in the World Series and went into game 6 trailing 3-2 in the series and were down 5 runs in game 6 before coming back to win the game and force a game 7.

Line up: Are you ready for some Small Ball? I hope you are if you play as this team, get the speed on base, bunt them over and knock them in. This is an interesting team as they aren't what you would expect from a World Series winner, not a lot of power other than Garret Anderson and Troy Glaus, but a lot of high on-bases to try and get the rallies started.

Rotation: This rotation will need a lot of high rolls to keep the runners off the base paths. There are plenty of opportunities to get outs if they dice are in their favor. John Lackey makes another appearance on a World Series team and Jarrod Washburn looks like he would be the ace of the staff. Luckily for them they are supported by a great bullpen.

Bullpen: Troy Percival leads the way and will be slamming doors on all comers. All four relievers are 200 points or more and can come in and help the starters should they struggle early in the game.

After looking through this team they remind me a lot of the Showdown Cup runner up Kansas City Royals, when the next cup comes around will this Angels teams be able to create the same magic that the Royals did? How would you play with a team like this

  1. No foils? Interesting.

Yay for Donnelly! Like Damien Miller he was a scab in the strike and never got to be in the MLBPA.

Kudos for Fullmer's missing bat trick :)

  2. ha yeah, his bat blended in with he background so it had to go because it wouldnt cut right, the reason i did no foils was more because of how i liked the red with the white jerseys, but im more of a fan of the one solid color, and with the first team of the 2018 set not having any i figured i would go that route

    1. That makes sense. Not a complaint mind you (just thought it curious), but I overlooked that on the Cleveland set. Plus it's less work on your end I'd imagine :)

  3. Love this team! Definitely was a fun one to root for as a youngster, basically used them in MVP Baseball 2003 all the time too! I love the bullpen, absolute monster. Also, the lineup is better than I would've expected! I'd say this team is an upgraded version of the 15 Royals!
