1996 Texas Rangers

NICE! Now we are back at a good team. This team is very fun and loads of good cards. It also looks visually good. Always nice to have an MVP on your team. You taking Pudge?

1996 Pittsburgh Pirates

This team in my original mark up had no FOILs :( but I had to give it to at least 1 person so at the time Jeff King was the highest so he got the FOIL so if you were wondering why he did that is why. The team itself is lack luster. Without Denny Neagle they really don't have a star. Some value A speed guys are nice to have. And see RC Jason Kendall is fun. But overall a disappointment.

1996 Philadelphia Phillies

Sorry for the late post. Work is crazy! But you are not missing much with the Phillies. Sad to say the only real highlight on this team is Curt Schilling and Jim Eisenreich. I even had to finagle a guy onto this team because not enough players even made the list. Plus never been a fan of this pinkish maroon color. Give me powder blues though.

1996 San Diego Padres

Here we go! now this team is really fun. Team has multiple FOILS and probably could've gotten more. Fast and powerful with decent starting pitching with one awesome bullpen. This should be fun to play with. Also really like the look of these cards, the color reads well.

1996 Baltimore Orioles

I'm back after a week off! Coming at you fast with the Orioles. A nice 18 team set. Always good to see Pay Me Bobby Bonilla in the set. And the no proof of Steroids Brady Anderson. We do have 2 great foils in this set with Brady and Robbie Alomar. As well a solid 1B not a DH Palmeiro. Always good to see a decent Orioles team versus whatever they are today...

2000 MLB Team and Bot Challenge

I haven't posted a challenge in a while so trying to get back to where the game started, the 2000 set. So many fun cards to play with, and want to give them some love with the 01 style being the dominant view lately. In this challenge, I am going to go first come, first serve, with people posting on Discord followed by on the blog here. If you're not on the Discord yet, message Jeff Mather in the Facebook group for the plug.

The rules are this:

-Each competitor gets to select one team from the 2000 set. With their team, they can only use cards from that specific team (if you select the A's, you can only use A's cards from both the base set and pennant run set). Every team is allowed to be picked one time, so again, it is a first come, first serve, basis on claiming a roster.

-With your roster, you must create a three-man rotation, carry four relievers, and field a full lineup including DH (sorry, for this I am not playing NL rules). As some teams have a limited number of relief pitchers available, teams can choose to carry one starter as a reliever. They are capped at -4 IP off of their chart instead of the full amount. Rosters will be 16 players total. If you choose to play someone out of position in the field, house rule penalties will apply.

-Thanks to Matt Gula and the Bot (showdownbot.com), we are adding a twist to incorporate and promote card creation. Teams may choose to upgrade or add 1 batter, 1 starter, and 1 reliever (three cards total). All Lokis (variants) of a card are welcome, so find the version of the card and player that you want to use and go with that. To qualify for a card, the player must have had either at least 100 at-bats or 25 innings pitched during the 1999 season. The player must have also appeared in a game on that team during the 1999 season. For players that do meet the qualifications, you are allowed to use any year that player played for the team (again, in that season they must meet those qualifications listed above). Two examples would be you could choose to upgrade Darin Erstad if running the Angels or Jeff Kent if managing the Giants to better years (to create better cards). Obviously this promotes finding super seasons, stellar play, one-off seasons, and impactful rookies/trades, so have fun diving into baseball history.

Darin Erstad regular 2000 card.

Darin Erstad 2000 season card using stat version #3 on the bot.

-To fully claim your roster and franchise, you must submit the entire lineup with what cards you will be using, as well as your created cards (which must be shared as well). As I do not have time to create all of these cards, when you submit your roster, you must submit the three pictures/cards that you wish to use from the Bot. The team is not yours until this is submitted and once it is sent it, your team is locked in (no swapping out later if you find a better version).

Games will be played with my house rules. Everyone has little wrinkles and twists for fielding, mistake pitches, and whatever else it may be. If you have a specific question, feel free to ask (I try to answer but sometimes I do not get to everyone). All games will be played out by myself or playing someone on TTS. If you are not on TTS and would like more information, hit Jeff up.

I will take submissions open through August 22nd, at which point I will create a schedule and play the season out.

Good luck to all who participate!

2019 Bot Set -- NL West

The best team in the National League in 2019 resides in the NL West -- the 106 win LA Dodgers! With this post, we'll be 25/30 teams into the 2019 Bot Set! I hope you've been enjoying the ride so far. Here, 3/5th of the teams were sub-.500 and the 85 DBacks aren't much to look at.... but those Dodgers, wowza! Even if the majority of teams aren't contenders in a full sim, there's still plenty of draftable players to look into here, so let's get into it!

Buster Posey is putting up numbers like this again in 2021, but don't expect this MVP card below

1996 New York Mets

I really like the way the New York Mets came out. There are some very high salary cards on this list that just missed getting FOILS at the time. So sadly only 1 FOIL though they could have easily had 3-4. Also some crazy low value puntable cards to fill in positions. Let me know what you think.

1996 Florida Marlins

I know you guys think I missed a day... well I did. Very busy these days. But hey! we are at the halfway point. And that halfway point is the Florida Marlins. A very small team set with not a lot of qualifying players. But the ones they have are boss! They have 4 FOILS!!! It's Hot. Plus the cards look great with the color.

2019 Bot Set -- NL Central

The 2019 Bot Set rolls on with my favorite division, the NL Central! If you play out a season or shortened season or tournament between complete teams, this division is going to be one of the most hotly contested! Of course, the St. Louis Cardinals ended up on top of the division with the third (or even fourth) best team on paper in real life -- while they're easily my least favorite team in baseball, but I have to respect the often unexplainable success created by the Cardinal way..... plus, Busch Stadium is my favorite ballpark! However, the Brewers and Cubs look like loaded squads, and the Reds have a phenomenal rotation plus a few great hitters.

As a Brewers fan, I think we've got the best squad here, but really..... it's everyone but Pittsburgh's division to win!

Unfortunately, the Pirates do not have MVP McCutchin on the squad anymore, but the 2013-2015 Pirates are all *nice* showdown teams!

1996 Seattle Mariners

If you thought last weeks team was good. This team is even better. Its also great to see all these amazing players back on the Mariners. Young Arod and a beautiful Griffey. Got the 11OB Edgar. Only wish Randy Johnson made the list for the team in 1996. Maybe you will all get lucky for an LE set. This team is a beast.
