Introducing The Greatest Showdown Cup

The Greatest Showdown Cup
Rolling out this season is the Greatest Showdown Cup between some of the greatest teams
of all time. We have 16 teams committed to the first tournament of its kind. Presented by the
Greatest Showdown Blog we have 8 American League and 8 National League teams
competing. With even numbers for each side that is how this tournament will be conducted.

How the tournament will work:
Round 1: Each 8 team pool will play a round robin schedule with its pool where the top 4
teams from each pool will advance to tournament play. Record will be the first category to
determine who moves on. If we have a tie we move on to run differential. If we are still tied
after that it will come down to total runs scored, and if somehow they are still tied it will be
who won the head to head match up.

Round 2: The seeds 1-4 will play the lower seed of the other pool in a 5 game series to
advance. American League #1 will play National League # 4 and so on.

Round 3: The winners of each series will move on to play their next opponent in a 7
game series.

Round 4: The final two teams will compete in another 7 game series to determine the
first Greatest Showdown Cup Tournament Champion.

Rules: Each team has a set 4 man rotation and will go in order of points for pitching order.
After each series a team can reset it rotation. A rule for relievers is that during pool play they
can only pitch 2 games in a row at full health. If they pitch over their designated IP per game
in back to back games they must sit out a third game. For example ifa reliever pitcher 2 ⅓ IP
total in back to back games and they are 1 IP they must sit the next game out. No pitcher can
pitch in more than 3 straight games.

Now let’s meet the teams:

fest for supremacy. Will your favorite team do what it takes to bring home the championship?
