The dust settled after a thrilling opening round of the Showdown Cup and the aces took the field in the first round of the playoffs and it showed. Runs were at a premium in every game and the 01 Mariners were the first team to score a run on Randy Johnson in the tournament. The Royals took down the Dodgers at home 3-1 as Johnny Cueto fanned 13 batters as this Cinderella story continues. CC Sabathia went the distance against the Marlins with a complete game shutout, while Derek Jeter drove in the two runs for the Yankees. The highest scoring game of the day was the Diamondbacks and the Mariners as Randy Johnson improved to 3-0 in the tournament gibing up 2 runs and striking out 13. The 07 Red Sox pulled off the upset victory at Wrigley taking down the Cubs scoring 2 runs late in the 8th inning to take the series lead.
