5 Jose Altuve '17 500pt
Coming in fifth is 2017 Jose Altuve and his 2017 monster season. He has the lead in 4 of the 9 categories leading all the other second basemen in the ranking, not too bad for the 500 point threshold. Has the least amount of outs on his chart with 2, none of the other 4 players can say that. He also brings in the highest speed A of the others and is tied for the highest defensive card. He is also tied for the most doubles. The lowest categories for him was HR+OB which isn't very surprising as you aren't picking him to be your power hitter, and single+ & up he has one of the lowest but all his singles will get him on base and keep runners moving.
4 Jose Ramirez '18 530pt
The only player in this category that plays two positions and while second base isn't his first position he played their plenty once the Indians brought in Josh Donaldson. If you like to shuffle players around the lineup and off your bench why not draft a player that can excel at two positions with the offense that he brings. In the second base category he is tied for the highest HR+OB, and his Speed A puts him in a tie for that category as well. The downside to this card is he brings the lowest defense to the group and even if he got to use his 3B defense it would still be the lowest. His other low category is triples with 0 but only one second basemen has a triple on his chart.
T2 Terry Shumpert '00 560pt
Another player mentioned in the podcast when talking about Max Muncy was Terry Shumpert and his card because he only had 304 plate appearances and 262 at bats. Could he have done what he did in half of a season for a full season? We will never know but what we do know is this Terry Shumpert is tied for the second highest point total of the second basemen. Now the benefits that you get from Terry Shumpert would be his speed A which it seems they all have, but he is also tied with Jose Altuve for the highest defense at +4 and for having 4 doubles on his chart. Shumpert is the sole possessor of most outs on his chart. Sadly when it his chart he can get out 25% of the rolls. Along with that he comes in with the least amount of walks and lowest HR+OB.
T2 Roberto Alomar '00 560pt
Look another 10 OB speed A second basemen, this time its 2000 Roberto Alomar, and the only category other than speed that he is a leader in is walks and he is the sole leader of that category. He has himself tied for lowest in OB+HR, doubles, triples, and single+ & up. This card also has a middle of the road defense to help make up for those low ranks among his peers. He and Jose Ramirez are the only two players with 2 single+ on their charts as well.
1 Jeff Kent '01 580pt
Coming in at the highest points is 01 Jeff Kent, and he is the only non speed A in the group. He is tied with Jose Ramirez for the most power among the group and is the only second basemen with a triple on his chart. He is the lowest speed as stated earlier at speed B, and is tied for the lowest amount of double at 2. That can be chalked up to the high home runs and the only triple in the bunch.
Now that the top second basemen have been presented, which player would you choose to be your second basemen for your team? Is their another player that you would choose instead of the high cost second basemen?
the most random 2B nobody knows about terry shump!
