MLB SHOWDOWN 2019 SET -- Arizona Diamondbacks

The first non playoff team released is in my opinion the most visually pleasing team of the set, the color scheme of the card, coupled with the color scheme of their jerseys just make these cards look amazing. Arizona was one of my favorite teams to watch this year because I love Ketel Marte and his card this year doesn't disappoint in any facet of the game. The Diamondbacks made two drastic changes this season, trading Paul Goldschmidt in the off season and then moving Zach Grienke before the deadline leaves this team just short of what could be playoff hopes in a league, but will be fun to use anyways with some great hitting players and some decent pitching. The wrapped up 2019 with a 85-77 record good for second in the NL West and 4 games out of the last wild card position.

Lineup: The lineup I chose for the Diamondbacks is the lineup that I would use if I was playing as this team in a game, so all you keyboard managers lets hear your opinion on this lineup. First we go with the big dog getting on base and moving around for his teammates behind him. Second is Eduardo Escobar and although hes a 7, he is doubling at 9 which is amazing. 3 & 4 we have two 8ob home run at 17 players, followed by a 9 ob Wilmer Flores to clean up anyone else on the base paths. David Peralta is still an explosive player who doubles at 13 and is a really good #6 hitter to have. Ahmed and Jones are your 7OB hitters that you just hope find their way on base for you and finally Jarrod Dyson  and his 22 speed. There is no bench as this team only brings 9 offensive players to the table.

Rotation: This rotation is really lacking an ACE like Zack Greinke, but Luke Weaver isn't a terrible option, although ideally he would be a number 2 starter on a contending team. Merrill Kelly is an average starter and Robbie Ray and Mike Leake are about as terrible to have to go to as possible. This shows how average the team is because they can not really trust half of their rotation.

Bullpen: For this bullpen to finish games off you will need plenty of high rolls, Archie Bradley while a 2 control isn't bad, out through 18 and only giving up walks on his chart makes him intriguing while the price might just be too high. Tons of 2 controls in the pen and a 4 control in Yoan Lopez who may scare off many with his homer on his chart but as a 4th or 5th option out of the bullpen he can eat up some innings at a high control.

The Diamondbacks come in at 4490 points through 19 players averaging at 236 points per player. Do to their ends of the rotation and bullpen you can not really rely on anyone to hold a lead, so you better have a big lead before turning it over. What does everyone think about the Diamondbacks?

  1. Ok I guess I am the king keyboard warrior here so I have to comment. This has to be one of the largest disparities between top talent and next best, with Marte's card coming in over 6 expected runs and Flores is next at 4.79, and then there's another half run drop off to Escobar, Walker, Kelly and Peralta. I might slip Walker into the lead off spot just to give Marte an outside shot of driving in a run? Though I'd be tempted to intentionally walk Marte every time.

This rotation is also nothing to fear, with Weaver being the top dog at 6.40 expected runs, Kelly at 7.27, and Ray at 8.67. That is NOT good. The bullpenn isn't better with Bradley being by far and away the best option at 6.47 runs, and no one else being within a run.

Marte is a stud of a card, and there's a few low end roster plug, but you can tell this team stripped talent in Goldy and Greinke.

    1. youre the go to guy for evaluations on line ups is more like it. I thought about having Marte hit second, but liek you said such a huge gap between talent I wanted to get him as many at bats as possible and have the explosive escobar behind him
