MLB SHOWDOWN 2019 SET -- Toronto Blue Jays

Today's winner is the 2019 Toronto Blue Jays, and another team thats future releases will probably be 100x more fun to play with as the second generation trio continues to grow. The team struggled in the stacked AL East and finished with a 67-95 record and most of the blame would be on the pitching staff that you will see this team present. Trading Marcus Strowman doesn't help any in the way this rotation looks as well. Hopefully they develop the rotation and bullpen to go along with the young offensive studs that they are building around.
(Since Biggio and Bichette made the all decade team, I went with Vladdy)

Lineup: This lineup gives a slight glimpse into the future of what could be a outstanding offense to build around for the Blue Jays. Cavan Biggio leading off with a 9 on base and 20 speed who homers at 17 should get the team off to a good start. Followed by team stud Bo Bichette who tore it up in his limited time this season in the big leagues. Justin Smoak is up next very similar to last year chart, at least he is a consistent from year to year with a playable card. Next is probably my most disappointing card this season in Vlad Guerrero JR. I am not disappointed in it because of how he played, but because of all the hype of him coming up to the big leagues this year, and he is the worst out of the three rookies, and was just hoping for a Vlad Sr type of card. Now that he is settled in I think 2020 is going to be a great year for that trio again with my early prediction of three 400 point cards between the three of them. Guerriel and Hernandez follow with 7 on base 15+ home runs give the lineup some low end depth where you hope to get the advantage to clean up any of the batters ahead of them that are on base. Tellez, Jansen and Grichuk follow suit with 6 on bases with big home run ranges that won't be doing much damage but can come through with the advantage every once in awhile and hopefully come through when they get it.

Bench: A true defensive sub, as he can't run and won't get many advantages batting, he is only there for late innings to get positive fielding at first and third.

Rotation: Yikes! you know its bad when your best starter is a 2 control that can only go 4 innings. Things don't get much better as you go down, this team is going to get torn apart in a league style of play, and will need to score plenty of runs to have any hope of winning. I cant see any of these 4 starters getting drafted in a league draft unless it is a super deep league.

Bullpen: The Blue Jays finally have one pitcher that can be counted on and that is Ken Giles. The only foil on the team and he is worth every point of his 220 point salary. Also he is worth more than the entire starting rotation for the Blue Jays.    They also have 2 relievers that can go 2 innings which helps with the weak starting pitching, but those relievers both give up home runs, so one bad roll and they can be knocked down quickly. After that two more bottom of the barrel relievers round out this poor pitching staff, Blue Jays fans, don't read any further just look at the top of the batting order and Ken Giles.

This team is going to play probably worse than their record with no Strowman in the rotation. I don't know if the offense would be able to make up for their lack of pitching, even in series where they are playing weaker opponents like division opponent Baltimore. Games against teams with good pitching would seem unwinnable and i wouldn't bet on the blue jays. With 19 players the Blue Jays come in at 3190 points, averaging 167 points per player. They are down at the bottom, and like most of the bottom teams ,they have draft able players, but not a team ready to compete in a team vs team aspect.

  1. God this pitching staff is atrocious.

The lineup isn't much better, but Biggio chcecks in at 5.08, Bichette at 5.22, Smoak at 4.25, Guerrero and Gurriel right around 3.75 with JR being just above. Definitely going to be fun in a few years though. Drury has 20-20 as 1B+? Thinking that's just supposed to be no single pluses?

Pitching wise we got Giles in at a studly 4.68 which would make any team- all time or not. Otherwise the next best is actually Mayza....at 7.87 runs. Told you they were bad. At first I was going to ask about Font- but then I saw his stats. 14 starts, 23 games and 39.1 IP. OPENERS HERE WE GO. Either way, he's bad. Bucholz is the worst here non IP adjust due to his 2 Control and only 15 to get on base with a HR- a sweet sweet 9.9906 expected runs. OOOOF
