Showdown Cup Playoffs Game 2's

Two game 2's tonight and pressure is on the home teams, both down 0-1 in the series and do not want to be down 0-2 as they would be playing games 3 & 4 on the road. The first day of games didn't disappoint and let me tell you these ones were even better. Both games going extra innings, including a 14 inning marathon where an all time showdown performance happened. I'll get into those details shortly but first lets look at the box score.

CHIPPER JONES DIVISIONAL SERIES

Scoring Summary:

  • B2 JT Riddle Doubles, Aguilar, Schwarber score 2-0 DBX
  • T3 C. Blackmon 2-Run HR, Nimmo scores 2-2
  • B4 J. Lowrie Doubles, Aguilar scores 3-2 DBX
  • T5 B. Nimmo Triples, Andrus scores 3-3
  • T5 C. Blackmon Singles, Nimmo scores 4-3 AM
  • B5 J. Aguilar Doubles, Rizzo scores 4-4
  • B14 K. Schwarber Singles, Kingery score 5-4 DBX WALKOFF
W: Pedro Strop     L Jordan Zimmerman

Player of the Game: Pedro Strop W 7IP 7H 0ER 2BB 9K
Wow what a game, a full 14 inning marathon with Pedro Strop pitching one of the greatest performances I have seen. Dat Boy X had a strategy and he stuck with it, only utilizing one reliever and being willing to live with the results. Now he can live with a 1-1 tie in the series, behind strop pitching and navigating a tough lineup as a 2,1, and 0 control. A great decision to pinch run Wilson Ramos with Scott Kingery after a Ramos double, led to a Kyle Schwarber single and Kingery beating the throw to the plate.

GARY SHEFFIELD DIVISIONAL SERIES

  • B10 A. Benintendi Singles, Yelich scores 5-4 SKR

W: Jordan Hicks     L: Diego Castillo

Player of the Game: Andrew Benintendi 3/4 2RBI SB GW single

Another pinch run situation that pays off as Billy Hamilton pinch ran forTony Kemp and was brought home by a Travis Jankowski ground ball as he beat the throw home from the defense and tied the game up in the bottom of the 9th. Back to back games for the Wolves where their bullpen has let them down. They look for some good home cooking to fix the bullpen situation as the series will not shift to Wisconsin.

Be on the lookout for Game 3 coming soon from each series, as always follow me @MLBShowdowncup on twitter for updates, and more fun showdown discussions. The twitter poll is still open on who you think will win, so vote if you haven't.
